PERMANENT SECRETARY, FMIST, VISITS NARICT, ASSURES INSTITUTE OF SUPPORT

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science & Technology (FMIST), Dr. Mukhtar Y. Muhammad, today 30th October, 2026 visited the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT), Zaria, to familiarise himself with its research, innovations, facilities & contributions to national development.

He was received by the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Dr. Kabiru Muazu, & other principal officers.

In his welcome address, the DG/CEO appreciated the visit as an opportunity to strengthen FMIST-NARICT relations. He reaffirmed NARICT's commitment to research, innovation, technology development & commercialisation, highlighting its achievements, ongoing research, private-sector partnerships & funding challenges affecting research, infrastructure & production.

The Permanent Secretary toured the research laboratories, Fertilizer Production Plant, Oil Extraction Unit, Essential Oil Unit & NARICT Production Unit. Heads of Departments & Units showcased their research, innovations & commercialization efforts.

Impressed by the facilities & achievements, he commended the Management & staff for their dedication. He explained that his visit aimed to strengthen relations & gain first-hand knowledge of the Institute's activities, stating: "I am here to establish a relationship with the Institute & to see things for myself, including the people behind NARICT's achievements."
He assured NARICT of his support in addressing its challenges, particularly improving its visibility among the public, stakeholders & chemical industries. He also urged the Institute to develop practical technological solutions to industrial needs.
The visit highlighted the importance of adequate funding, research commercialisation, improved visibility & stronger collaboration between research institutions & the private sector.
